Butterhead Lettuce Wraps

Updated: Feb 5, 2024

Looking for a fun way to use your lettuce and other optional veggies, this is the recipe! This makes quite a large amount and is perfect for leftovers the next day.

Prep Time: 10 Minutes | Cook Time: 25 Minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef

  • 1 head of butterhead lettuce, leaves pulled off

  • 1 tablespoon cooking oil

  • 1 large onion, chopped

  • 1 red bell pepper, chopped (optional)

  • 1/4 cup hoisin sauce

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce

  • 1 tablespoon rice wine vinegar (can substitute apple cider vinegar)

  • 2 teaspoons ground ginger

  • 1 dash chili pepper sauce (optional)

  • 1 bunch turnips (the recipe calls for 8 ounces of water chestnuts, but I substituted turnips and it was great)

  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil

  • Green onions (optional)

Directions

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat.  Add your cooking oil and beef, cooking until brown (5-7 minutes)

  2. Drain and discard grease, moving beef to a bowl or strainer

  3. Add onions, red bell pepper, and turnips to the same skillet and cook until slightly tender (5-10 minutes)

  4. Stir in hoisin sauce, garlic, soy sauce, vinegar, ginger and chili pepper into skillet

  5. Add in sesame oil and cooked beef and stir for a couple more minutes

  6. Pile your meat onto a lettuce leaf, top with green onions, make a wrap and enjoy!
